A fleet of over 100 boats
Still two months before the start, the organizers had already registered more than 100 boats, a milestone that hadn’t been reached so far in advance for years. The highlight goes to the international participation, the largest in the event’s history: eight Argentine sailboats — Clandestina, Double Black, Mad Max RockHaus, Sandokan, Mago, Fjord V, Der Bekannte 2, and Louanjo — as well as the Uruguayan Lady.
In the ORC, the main oceanic class, the lineup brings together big names: Olympic sailor Samuel Albrecht, leading Crioula 52, a three-time champion of the competition, and Eduardo Souza Ramos, the most successful sailor in SIVI history with nine titles, at the helm of Onda. Alongside them, amateur and family crews share the same course — one of the event’s trademarks.
What’s new this edition
Given the number of entries, organizers brought back the format with two racing courses, responding to a long-standing request from sailors and allowing for routes better suited to each group of boats. The HPE25 class also returned to the program, joining ORC, BRA-RGS, RGS-Cruiser, Classics, and C30. Rounding out the schedule are the Super 40 Challenge and the Team Race Championship.
Among the races, the traditional Alcatrazes por Boreste Marinha do Brasil, with about 55 nautical miles, remains on the itinerary, along with the Ilha de Toque-Toque por Boreste and the Renato Frankenthal, in addition to the windward-leeward races, which demand completely different strategies from the teams.
Much more than racing
The program kicked off on July 24 with registration, continued on the 25th with the Regata Vela do Amanhã Mauro Dottori by Genoa Capital — which brings children from social projects aboard alongside competitors — and had its official opening on Sunday the 26th with the Boat Parade at the Village pier and the start of the first races.
On land, the Race Village, set up in the Historic Center, features booths from environmental and cultural organizations, discussion circles, children’s activities, and concerts, with attractions like Paula Lima and Chico Chico. SIVI wraps up the Mês da Vela, which began with the Semana Internacional de Vela de Monotipos from July 9 to 11, bringing together 145 sailors at the Escola Municipal de Vela "Lars Grael".
Sustainability took center stage this year: all official communications — notices, documents, and results — went digital, there are water refill stations to encourage the use of reusable bottles, and the Instituto Baleia Jubarte is involved in environmental education activities with the children of Vela do Amanhã. Female participation also remains strong, both among crews and in roles such as race officials, race committee, and event organization.
Impact on the nautical sector
More than just a competition, SIVI energizes the entire nautical sector of the northern coast. The 2025 edition brought together around 120 boats and 1,500 sailors, with an estimated economic impact of about R$ 50 million, boosting lodging, food, retail, and services — all during the low season. For 2026, expectations are for over 5,000 people involved.
For marinas, shipyards, and service providers, the week serves as both a showcase and a stress test: increased demand for slips, maintenance, sails, rigging, and onshore support in a short period. It’s also the moment when much of the Brazilian nautical community gathers in the same place.
